Overwrite some files when copied to empty location ?

Not a big problem here but I like to understand what's going on...

Why is it that sometimes (not only with XP), when copying files to an empty directory, Windows stops and asks if it's alright to overwrite a file (that already exists)? Why is it copied twice? Is this a shortcut thing? Associated files? What?

Hello!

Maybe the problem is happening with the cache memory or with the buffer:

Data buffer

Some times I use this reg file to clear Page File:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"ClearPageFileAtShutdown"=dword:00000001

Regards

I am missing something.

If the directory is empty, why would there be a prompt to overwrite what isn't there?
