Problems to launch WPI

Recommended Posts

OK Couple of things:

#1 RunWPI.exe does NOT work with the hta file anymore. (AS you have found out)

#2 WPI has gone through HUNDREDS of changes since the version you are using.

#3 I would really prefer if you updated and used the newer version.

#4 Please attach your Current config.js file and I will bring it to current standards for you.

#5 If your a seriously wanting to stick with the older version I will give you a run solution.

EDIT = Found your config from an earlier post! I have updated it for your uses..

Hello Kelsenellenelvian!!

Thanks to submit your tips and thanks for the file.

Is not my priority to stick with an older version it`s just the version I already did my WPI.

I tried to migrate to the new version by I have problems to configure because it doesn`t allow me to configure it I don`t know why yet.

I`m going to take a look into the file you attached..

Thanks again! I really apreciated.

With Regards

@nanitoboy

At first you can save a copy of your "config.js"!

After, just place your older "config.js" inside the folder "WPI" (8.1.0)and Start- Launch "WPI.exe inside the folder WPI!

Your file will be updated and you will be able to see and modify your installation's file!

Just an advice: You need to choose to install either Office 2003 or Office 2007, and not install together, you will get errors!

Here is your modded file updated with WPI 8.1.0

Hi myselfidem!

Yes I already copy the file to WPI (8.1.0)

I explain you about office:

I work repairing computers, and I made WPI with multiples choices because not all my clients uses the same software, ones uses office 2003 and others office 2007.

It wasn`t my intention to install them togheter.

The idea was to crate a WPI with multiples choices even inside WPI I configured only MS Office 2007 as predefined.

Thanks for your help.

Im going to test the new file with the new WPI.

With Regards

Hello again friends!

News:

I made WPI start after windows installation. Finally!

But...

Its start but it doesn`t install anything.

The program closes.

What should I do to fix that?

Can WPI requirements be installed before or what should I do?

Thanks again.

Please remember that WPI is not free for corporate or buisness use.

As to the not installing anything have you modified your source at all? (The OS?)

WPI only has 1 real requirement. IE6 and later.

I don`t use WPI for a corporation, I`m not one and I don`t make business with it. I`m only a small technician with the purpouse to have a tool to win some time installing programs. That`s all!

How do I modified the source?

I used Nlite with a XP RTM and I add SP3 and updates..

So the question become How should I add IE 6 or IE8 to the source?

With regards.

Hello!

Internet Explorer 6 is include with Windows XP RTM!

You can upgrade to IE7 with nLite, works fine...but for IE8 is more difficult. I know there is a workaround!

You can use search inside MSFN forum:

found help here:

But you need to choose IE7 or IE8 for your current language!

So I don`t get it. Why then? If the XP RTM contains IE6 and I have updated it to SP3 why it doesn`t start?

Maybe it`s the NET Framework that should be installed first?

If is correct how I should integrate NETFX in nlite -I suppouse- To have it installed before WPI Run after windows installation?

Hello!

See inside the folder "I386" the file: IEXPLORER.EX_

You can safely integrate IE7 with nLite!!

You can use this reg file to use the options "Expand" or "makecab" on right click!

CabExp.reg

REGEDIT4

;Add Expand to right click
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Expandit\command]
@="expand -r \"%1\""

;Add MAKECAB to right click
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\MAKECAB\command]
@="\"makecab.exe\" \"%1\""

Internet Explorer will be installed when Windows XP is installed!

To use Silent NET Maker

Hello again.

Well, My progress is that I integrate IE7 with nlite and it worked just fine...

But....

It still doesn`t want to install. The million dollar question is why? There must be something wrong.

I was thinking that maybe it fails because WPI starts before the desktop loads.

What do you think about that?

What else should I make?

Thanks for the support.

With regards

Tips:

Check disk structure. WPI, i386 and $oem$ must all be on the same level! At the disk root.

cmdlines.txt and runwpi.exe or runwpi.inf must be in the oem folder.

Make sure wpi.exe is at path %root%\wpi\wpi.exe

if it still doesn't run after install run it manually and post the resulting log file here. (can be found on your sys drive)

What else are you adding to\removing from your disk? (attach your last_session file here please)

Check if you have set the files inside the correct folders!

1) "cmdlines.txt" and "RunWPI.inf" inside $OEM$, for Windows XP with WPI 8.1.0 version!

2) Set the line for launch WPI at the end of "cmdlines.txt"!

[Commands]

"rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection nLite.inf,U"

"hidecon.exe /w DTC.cmd"

"hidecon.exe /w SpyMS.cmd"

-----------------------

"hidecon.exe /w PF.CMD"

"hidecon.exe /w support.bat"

"hidecon.exe /w valueadd.bat"

"rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection RunWPI.inf,,1,N"

I've put my old "config.js" (WPI 7.2 version) inside the folder "WPI" and it was updated and saved as "config-orig.js" inside the folder "WPIScripts" with WPI 8.1.0

I've made an test and all is fine for me!!

Hi!

I have the files in the correct folders except RunWPI.Inf that it doesn`t exists in my cd. The File I have is RunWPI.exe official launcher.

The WPI starts after windows installation the thing is that when I select to install predefine programs WPI closes leaving the OS configure IE and others.

The real problem is that it doesn`t want to install

With regards.
