Fredledingue
I'm adding links to some topics from MSFN forums on my website.I noticed the topic url's are not the same as previousely. e.g.:http://www.msfn.org/board/install-large-drives-above-137gb-barrier-t113142-pid-740545.htmlbecamehttp://www.msfn.org/board/topic/113142-install-w98-on-large-drives-above-the-137gb-barrier/Note:install-large-drives-above-137gb-barrier became install-w98-on-large-drives-above-the-137gb-barrierSo it's not even possible to recompose the new adress from the old one because the description changes arbitrarily!Question: will the old addresses ending with .html be always valid or should I change all the adresses by hand? If I had to do so it will be a big work for me.
iamtheky
that old address forwards to the new one automatically for me.actually "http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/113142-" also forwards me on to the topic as does "113142-install" , "113142-install-w98" , and any variation following that pattern.however just 113142 sends me to the homepage, but once the dash is placed I get your destination. Guest
The URLs should be converted on-the-fly when clicked,Fredledingue. You should not need to change them at the moment. But when the forum is updated again old link formats may break. To future-proof your links, change to the original format that was non-descriptive. jaclaz has a web-based tool to accomplish this. It doesn't seem to work for links to member profiles, however. I had to modify the link to jaclaz's profile in this post by hand.

I had to modify the link to jaclaz's profile in this post by hand.Yep, it's just a "half a**ed" htm page with a bunch of javascript in it, really not my field, it was intended as a quick and dirty tool for internal use, but since it ended up as being only dirty (and not quick at all ) I put it online so that othere people may use it.It is intended ONLY for links to posts (and forums) and is VERY far from being complete, or "fully functional", but it (sometimes) works, even when it doesn't, it mostly works, i.e. with a minimal manual correction to the result it can be made working. If anyone with a better knowledge of javascript is willng to give suggestions, provide better code, etc. I'am all for it.@FredledingueLink in my signature. The matter was discussed here:Oops, I mean here :http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=137119 jaclaz
Guest
I'd love to help, jaclaz, but I know nothing of javascript. The best I can do is offer the ideal (shortest) forms for common link types that always work for me on MSFN. WinCert's friendly URLs can be converted the exact same way as MSFN's.Link to subforum: (nLite)http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89Link to member: {jaclaz)http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showuser=25215Link to topic: ("Topic URL 's?")http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=145998Link to post: (iamtheky's post in this thread)http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=findpost&pid=936269Currently, jaclaz, when a post link as converted on your site it also adds a "showtopic". While this generally should work, it may not work when the post has been moved to another topic by a moderator. It also adds unnecessary length to the URL. I prefer URLs to be as short as possible in a format that should always work.I have not encountered a link that converts to a broken link on your site, though. It seems well coded to me. Fredledingue
Thanks for all the replies. As I see there are two ways to reach a page: from the php interface and by direct link.In the direct link only the number following "-t" in the old address is needed in the new address (followed by "-").That's already easier.
