re8 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Basically something that isn't always in the background & doesn't hog up resources, so I can just scan-on-demand. ClamWin AV is exactly what I need, but it has not a good database. Has to be available offline, so "cloud" AV isn't acceptable. I don't like how Avast, AVG, etc takes over my system, & doing an install/scan/uninstall is a pain.TIA.
Tarun Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 avast or Microsoft Security Essentials are the best freebies, honestly.
re8 Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 avast or Microsoft Security Essentials are the best freebies, honestly. Thanks for the reply.Yes, they are "best" at finding viri, but not best for me since I just want to scan on demand, & not have my system taken over. So my question is still unanswered.
cluberti Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 If all you want is scan on demand, your question has indeed been answered. Also, the plural of virus is technically viruses - the double-i plural is only for latin words who's root also ends in i .
Cheitanya Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 avast or Microsoft Security Essentials are the best freebies, honestly.yes my friend avast is the best free av available i have used antivir,comodo.avg.mse. after evaluating them i find that avast is the best alround performer.
