Recommend Free software for compression

Is anyone aware of free software that would compress PDF, Office documents that you would like to recommend? Or any paid software (if it comes to it). I just need to have large files compressed in the smallest possible file size.

All are much the same with regards to PDF,s with figures of around 10%. There is a link to a File Compression Software Review on the left of the page.

Given most will compress PDF and DOC files about the same, it would come down to what else you'll use it for. For a free app, 7Zip seems to be the best; for a non-free app, WinRAR is the best in my opinion.

Don't forget that since XP you can right click on a file or folder and in the Send To menu you can create a zip file.
