johnhc Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 b-man, did you start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders? I notice that you have a number of services set to 4 (disabled). Did you change any of these? What says "install failed". Please post a screen shot. Have you tried with your security SW off? Have you changed FW/AV lately? I just went over to CIS (Comodo) v4 and it is sandboxing all kinds of things. BTW, I notice you set up a bunch of NICs. The way I read the nLite Unattended page, you must specify a MAC address for these to work. Did these definitions work for you? Enjoy, John.
Sp0iLedBrAt Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I have integrated this add-on http://xable.net/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9 in my CD and it works fine.
b-man Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) @johnhcyes started with a new sourceserviced are set to disabled are posted in screen shot aswell, although 99% sure they are unneeded for windows update just for remote desktop etc(as far as i can see windows update needs event log, automatic update and BITS running and they all are)in the vmware i havent installed any AV and have my firewall turned offi didnt setup any NIC's thats just what nlite had done for me but i can connected to the internet fine if thats what your asking@Sp0iLedBrAtill add that and try again is there anyway i can just install without have to re nlite it?although it seems i already have that version as my wuaueng.dll in system32 is that version Edited March 27, 2010 by b-man
johnhc Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) b-man, the latest version of Windows Update Agent 3.0 can be found in this KB. I suggest you install it and see if it fixes the problem. Is your wuaueng.dll version 7.4.7600.226? I suspect the agent will not correct your problem and I do not know what is going on yet. When you go to WU, it will ask to update the agent if it is not up to date. You said it used to work. Has it worked in your VM or just on the HW? What has changed since then? I also run VMware Server (XP x64) and have no problem with updates (latest agent installed during Windows install). Enjoy, John.EDIT: Please try DLing one of the updates directly from Windows DL Center and see if it will install by running it directly. Thanks.EDIT Again: I would suggest you start SENS (System Event Notification Service). Please look in your event log and see if COM is complaining about SENS not running. b-man Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) i already have the latest version (i am accessing the windows(microsoft) update through the webpage) and yes my wuaueng.dll is version 7.4.7600.226 as i can access the webpage and download the files fine they just wont installits working on my computer that im using now but not the newer nlited xp with the itunes and autologin fixes (havent removed anything else just added more stuff back in 2 get them to work unless i have accidentally hit another option)capped atm but will try at the start of the month or see if i can find a small file to try edit downloaded 1 and installed says it all went good and now isnt in the microsoft update website so definatly something to do with the updater im guessingi did start SENS (before and it still didnt work) but no it doesnt complain about it in the event logi found 1 of my very first lastsession.ini files and compared to my latest and here is the extra settings i have removed where the problem could lie unless its a corrupted install of windows update agentproblem.INI Edited March 28, 2010 by b-man
b-man Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) done a new session.ini changing alot of stuff and it still wont work...??doing it all in 1 session not adding run once to it after so nothing interfering with the actual nlited diskim lost with what to do could it be a corrupt windows update??edit also done the same lastsession.ini without hotfixes and still didnt work!!LAST SESSION.INI Edited March 28, 2010 by b-man
johnhc Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 b-man, I noticed that you said that you did it in one session. I suggest you should always do it in one session and start with a fresh source. Your last posted Last Session has no hot fixes. Is this true? Since you are running a VM, I suggest you start making test runs with some stuff left in the ISO. E.G., perhaps remove no services and see if it works. I got a bad copy of my CD one time and started making bad ISO with really strange symptoms. Looking in my System Log, I found messages like "Bad block on CDROM". It would be good to check your log for such. Good luck, John.
b-man Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 as always do it in 1 session and with fresh source but will re rip it from my disc again instead of copying from the ripped disc folderand will try without removing anything and go from thereyeah no hotfixes in the last 1 and removed alot less
b-man Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 all fixed i went through and started a fresh and only removed a section at a time (virtual test then used that last session.ini and done the next section) and got to services with it all working removed services again and it worked so not sure what it was but heres my new nlite to compareLAST SESSION.INI
kurtm Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 FYI, this can also be caused by McAfee Antivirus. They just changed something that seems to trigger on the sfc_os.dll that nlite seems to have modified. Lots of services use it (automatic updates and print spooler are the two most obvious). When McAfee cannot clean it, it schedules it to be removed at next reboot. Hilarity ensues. You can try adding an exception in the "Potentially Unwanted Programs" category and then restoring the dll. Then printing works, and it sounds like Automatic Updates should work again (testing that now).
johnhc Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 kurtm, when the nLite Option SFC (Windows File Protection) is used, sfc_os.dll is modified and the Registry key is set to disable SFC. I do this, but restore the dll and reset the key after install. Enjoy, John.
