NathanGJedi Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 OK, so I got HFSLIP, downloaded all the latest patches as per the list, ran the HFSLIP checker and removed a couple of obsolete ones, and integrated. Everything installs fine, but when I repair a computer with IE6 installed, the version of IEXPLORE.EXE is still 6. I've extracted IEXPLORE on the CD and it is definitely 8. I've also done a search for iexplore*.* including in archives and it found nothing that wasn't 8. I'm at a loss to explain this... System File Protection maybe? How do I fix it? Thanks!
NathanGJedi Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 UPDATE: After viewing the event logs, yes, it was SFC. So I ran SFC /PURGECACHE and tried reinstalling for like the fourth or fifth time, and this time it gives me "Error: could not locate INF file 'C:\WINDOWS\HFSLIP\HFSLIP151.INF'." And when I click OK it probably has a hundred more like that. Any ideas?
Inki Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) There are many people on this forum, who are immensely more knowledgeable than myself, but I am doing nothing important and feel helpful at the moment, so for what it's worth:The whole point of HFSLIP is to provide a slipstreamed and optimized installation source for doing a full/clean/fresh installation with many fixes/updates already included in the installation source. To add updates to an existing system I believe you would preferably run the installers manually or use some other tool, e.g. Windows Update. I may be mistaken, but it appears to me that you may have attempted something that seems a bit strange, and is unlikely to generate many constructive suggestions. Edited February 8, 2010 by Inki
NathanGJedi Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Thanks for the reply. I own a computer store, and more than half the installations we do here are repairs. However, after doing a repair with a stock disk, it is then necessary to perform all the updates. In addition, if IE8 was installed, and then a repair is done with IE6, this breaks activation. I really need a solution that allows me to do both reinstalls and clean installs with the updates integrated.
tommyp Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 NathanGJedi - Please re-read the software license agreement that came along with hfslip. You are using it against the agreement.
NathanGJedi Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 I don't see that. I'm using it to automate some of the tasks I have to do at my job. I'm not selling it or the modified installation sources.

cluberti Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I don't see that. I'm using it to automate some of the tasks I have to do at my job. I'm not selling it or the modified installation sources.HFSLIP is licensed under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported Creative Commons license. That means you can freely re-share or adapt the work, but you are NOT allowed to use the work for any commercial purposes - that includes use in an environment supporting a commercial endeavor, even if money does not directly change hands in direct response to use of the work. For example, use it in a work environment, even behind the scenes, is disallowed. Given you're operating as an employee or officer of a commercial computer shop, using HFSLIP for repair (for profit or pro bono) of a computer as said employee of said business would fall under this licensing restriction, given that a customer has given you the machine to repair, under the auspices that you're a computer or software repair shop (or both) - this constitutes commercial use. It's spelled out very clearly in plain English here, and the full text is in the .rtf with the product, but also available online here. Also, only the copyright holder of the product that is licensed under this agreement (in this case, tommyp) can absolve you of these terms, and I think it's clear you are not absolved.Lastly, HFSLIP was never meant for this use, so attempting to use it for this even in a non-commercial setting is probably caveat emptor, and no guarantees are made for HFSLIP's fitness for this purpose. If you're doing a lot of repair installations, this probably is not the best option anyway. It would probably be better for you to create a repair installation disc using Microsoft methods, and installing apps and such afterwards manually. I know it's a pain, but using an HFSLIP source to repair a computer in this state with anything other than the default app load the OS would normally have is probably a worse cure than the disease. In short, good luck on your endeavors, but I must strongly suggest that you stop using HFSLIP for your business, and refrain from asking HFSLIP questions here regarding your business. Usage of HFSLIP in a commercial, non-personal-use setting violates the license agreement, and in following board rules (1.d specifically), thread closed and warning issued. Further violation will result in a ban.[Closed].
