patcat88
Where is the emergency repair process? Booting off the CD with "press any key to continue" bootloader simply gives me only the option of the emergency repair console once I reach the first text mode screen. Guest
That's the entirety of your winnt.sif?
patcat88
That's the entirety of your winnt.sif?Yes, its that short. Its an OEMBIOS cd, so thats almost the only reason for my winnt.sif, to add the product key (plus to install Fax). I want the CD to be maximum attended. I am a newbie at making cds so I might be making some big mistake I'm not sure if XP is supposed to have the emergency repair process in the first place or not. According to Google it exists in XP. I'm more experienced with 2K.
Guest
Yes XP has repair. It's on the screen where you select the partitions. There of course must be a previous OS that it detects for the option to show up. Are you testing in a virtual machine?I would try changing UnattendedInstall=Yes to no. I know that the [unattended] section has to be removed to get the repair option so maybe that yes has something to do with it.EDIT: I'm sorry it's not the screen where you select the partitions. It's the one before it. Right after you press F8 for the license agreement. Edited December 28, 2009 by -X-

johnhc
patcat88, that does not look like an nLite created winnt.sif. It should have a note at the top saying "; Generated by nLite 1.4.9.1". Using nLite, you will not have the Repair option unless you choose Prompt Repair for the Unattended Mode under the General tab of the Unattended task. Please see the the help (? in a circle) next to the Unattended Mode drop list. And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
patcat88
My mistake. I'm just not too familiar with XP. Did some trial and error, in XP, we only have recovery console, to get to XP's repair process is past the F8 button, as -X- said.Press R here and it starts XP's repair process which is different from 2000 in that its more of an outright reinstall/upgrade rather than a basic sanity check like the 2000 repair process. For comparison, here is Windows 2000, in the order of the screens.I answered my own question for the record.
