Spawn705 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Hello!First of all congratulations for the great work! I have a problem installing Windows XP from stick (Apacer 2 GB), in the text mode when I try to select a partition or another drive I get a compatibility error and I don't know how to fix it! I have 2 hard drives, the first drive have 2 partition and the second one only one partition, and Windows 7 installed. I used WinSetupFromUsb application to create a bootable stick with NTFS file system.
ilko_t Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 What types of partitions you have on the first drive? Is there any valuable data on them? Is it the one you want to install Windows onto?Disconnect the other drive and try again. If it fails again please write what you see on the partitioning screen in Text mode.Mind you- XP Setup will replace bootsector on the first drive, which now most likely is Vista/7 type (loading bootmgr rather than ntldr) and if you format the active partition on the first drive you will have to rebuild Windows 7 BCD store as well, which should be also in the active partition of the first drive. To fix bootsector and rebuild BCD store:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...ns-in-Windows-7http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
Spawn705 Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Sorry for the late reply, I took two images with the problem:
ilko_t Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Disconnect the second disc, with Windows 7 on it, and try again.Where do you want to install XP on?Were partitions on first disk created under Vista/7?
Spawn705 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) Again I apologize for the late reply and thank you ilko_t for advices! I mananged to solve the problem but I don't know how exactly! I created another boot stick Micro Cruz with 4GB space using Fat32 option and NTLDR for WinXP option, after that I disconnected my first drive, Hitachi 120GB, with Win7 partition and left the other driver WD Caviar Black 1TB connected. At the first boot screen I didn't have xp compatibility problems so I decided to connect the first drive and worked to, but I can't explain the situation. I didn't installed WinXp yet because I have some work with this OS.LE: If something happens I will post here for future problems. Thank you! Edited November 2, 2009 by Spawn705
