Kingbeezz Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) Hello all,I'm currently trying to slipstream SP3 with my XP Home SP2 cd using NLite. I'm not adding any extra hotfixes, however in the Task Selecting window, when I only click on Integrate Service pack, I'm asked if I want to remove old hotfixes, in order to integrate new ones. But I have never selected any hotfixes. I'm guessing NLite is referring to the hotfixes in SP3?I have chosen Yes and created an image. Was it the right thing to do?Many thanks in advance. vinifera Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 i have the same thing, and it turns well for me, atleast in VM
johnhc Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Kingbeezz and vinifera, it sounds like you are not starting with a fresh copy of your original CDs files/folders. You are asking for severe and strange problems even if it seems OK on VM. My standard: Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
Ponch Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Those are post SP2 hotfixes integrated on the CD by the OEM. Answer YES and you're ok.
johnhc Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 A more nuanced response may be needed here.Perhaps OEM means more than I think it does. I have two OEM CDs (XP x64) purchased from Newegg with hardware. One has SP1 and one SP2 and neither have any hot fixes. If the term OEM includes Recovery CDs (supplied by a PC vendor with a new machine) then no telling what they have on them. Some have reported problems trying to use Recovery CDs. And perhaps some OEM disks come with hot fixes and I am not aware. Ponch is very knowledgeable and I suspect I am learning something here. I stick by my first post in that if you or someone else has run nLite or some other program against the original source before, you are asking for grief. Enjoy, John.
Ponch Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I have a cd that gives that message and it is an original. Not a hologram MS cd but a Fujitsu-Siemens branded "Product Recovery" that is in fact a plain WinXP SP1a install CD. I can't remember what happens when you choose "No", wether it refuses to integrate SP3 or it produces annoyances later, but if you reply "yes", there is no side effect to see. I've reinstalled my Acer portable with it. That one only came with a recovery image (on partition and cd).Maybe the mystery resides in the "a" from "SP1a", I don't know. I'm not "very knowledgeable", I'm just ancient.
Kingbeezz Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Ponch, since you are from Belgium, do you have a dutch XP OEM cd aswell? The EULA ID is saying: XPSP2_RM.0_HOM_OEM_NL. When I try to google it it gives me only one link.
Kingbeezz Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 @johnhc. I have added the last session.ini.Laatste_Sessie.ini
Ponch Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Kingbeezz, this is not a place to speak about wareezz download nor exchanging copyrighted material. If you don't agree... .I try to keep it funny, but this could potentially get the thread locked.
Kingbeezz Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Sorry Ponch, I don't know where you got the idea I talk about illegal software, I have a genuine OEM code with genuine OEM software. I'm just trying to figure out what could be the cause of this error.
johnhc Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Kingbeezz, your Last Session could not be much simpler, so if you are not running nLite more than once, then you should be OK. Does your ISO install and run? Please post a screen shot of a Windows Explorer view of your Original CD. Enjoy, John.
Kingbeezz Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Hello John, thank you. However I ran NLite twice, but removed all the files (SP3, slipstreamed XP, ISO and Lastsession.ini's from the NLite directory) before I ran it again. Is that enough?I haven't burned a cd yet, and didn't install XP either. What do mean exactly with a screenshot of Windows Explorer of the Original Cd? Is it the screen that pops up after I put it into the cdplayer?
johnhc Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Kingbeezz, you should always start with a fresh copy of your ORIGINAL CD files/folders. I copied all of my original CD contents into a folder and when I get ready to run nLite, I make a new folder containing a fresh copy of the files/folders. It is not enough to delete some files and precede. NLite alters files when it runs (an SP is integrated into the source files) and sometimes things get fouled up when it is run multiple times against the same folder. I suspect when you place the CD into your optical drive, you get the Auto Start screen, which is an option list of things to do, such as Install Windows. Please go to My Computer and right click the CDROM and select Explore. You will see a Windows Explorer view of all the files and folders on the CD. Please get a screen shot (Alt-Print Screen) and attach it here. Enjoy, John.
Kingbeezz Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) Hello Johnhc,I thought NLite will copy the files from the original cd to the harddisk? The first option is Locating the windows installation. I always point to the cd in the drive and after that I'm asked to which folder they should be copied to. So that is basicly the same as your folder with a fresh copy of the files/folder?I will try one more time and create new folders to be entirely sure. Here is the screenshot from the cd. johnhc Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Kingbeezz, your CD looks like a Recovery disk to me. Some have had success but some have had problems with Recovery disks. Be sure to allocate a folder for your copy from the CD - you are doing it correctly. Enjoy, John.
