Ben_j Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Hi, I'm having a bit of a problem. For some reason, one of my folder (My Documents) is on Read-Only mode (it was fine before) and I can't switch it back. Any idea ?
Ben_j Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 Actually, my whole partition is in read only... What the hell ?
Ben_j Posted September 7, 2009 Author Posted September 7, 2009 Problem solved, I started in Safe Mode and could switch the read only mode off. But still, how did my whole drive went in read only mode ?

Guest Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I've read many threads on another forum where W7 adds restrictive permissions on other drives. Don't recall one that changed after install though. If that's what yo mean. Maybe it's just one one of those things that need to be exorcised from the demon that is Windows 7. lol
EyesOfARaven Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I run into this on a regular basis (though it may not be the same reason yours failed, I thought I'd put this here for future searchers' benefit), and have solved it in my case.I have external disks (many of them) formatted as exFAT, and if they are dirty, Windows mounts them as Read-Only without informing me of this in any way shape or form. Closing all programs that are using the volume, and then running chkdsk /f x: (where x is your drive letter) fixes this in that particular scenario.
