clivebuckwheat Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 My P4 3ghz has recently began shutting down. When I reboot it goes straight to the BIOS and says the cpu has hung which caused a shutdown please ensure your cpu settings are correct. I have never played with the bios settings, and I have double checked them they all seem ok. Alas my pc is constantly shutting down. Even when the pc is doing nothing.I have checked all the fans they are working. I have no spyware or high cpu ussage.Could it be the powersupply?, what are some of the other things I could check.
oviradoi Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 These kind of problems are usually caused with dust building up over the years, and overheating the components.Check for dust in the CPU heatsink. You might also have dust in your power supply, but that's a tricky thing to open and clean up.
Ponch Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Does the Bios give you any temperature indication ?Has your case suffered any shock (physical knocking) before the problem ?
