I have w98se with Gape's old service pack, with Windows Media Player 6.4 and latest codecs (I think???)

And, I have a DVD which won't play. The DVD device seems to work.

A file structure shows up in Windows Explorer, and in IsoBuster and ImgBurn. But, when I try to open a file in WMP, showing all files, it doesn't list any of them.

IsoBuster shows the file structure as

DVD-R
--Session 1
" --Track 01
" " --[ISO] HEALTHPOINT
" " " --AUDIO_TS [directory is empty]
" " " --VIDEO_TS [directory is empty]
" " --[UDF] HealthPoint
" " " --AUDIO_TS [directory is empty]
" " " --VIDEO_TS [files listed below]
" " --[IFO] VIDEO
" " " --VIDEO_TS [files listed below]

files in [UDF] HealthPoint/VIDEO_TS are the same as files in [IFO] VIDEO/VIDEO_TS >>
VIDEO_TS.BUP 8.00KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 8.00KB
VTS_01_0.BUP 18.00KB
VTS_01_0.IFO 18.00KB
VTS_01_1.VOB 607.44KB

any ideas for how I can play this DVD?

do I need to associate one of these file types with WMP?

Windows Media Player 6.4 CAN play DVDs, but you need to change some registry keys. I can't remember how to do that, but I know that it CAN be done. Another way is to install FFDSHOW(Last stable version for Windows 9x if you do not have KernelEx installed), and enable "DVD decoding" under MPEG2 decoding under the FFDSHOW video configuration.

Try opening all the files one by one in WMP. One of them is the DVD's main video file. I played DVDs on my Windows 98 machine running WMP 6.4 with no problems.

That DVD has multi-filesystems support. Somehow it feels like that DVD has a problem... did you copy it from another disc? My guess is that you should open "VTS_01_1.VOB" in WMP, as it should be the MPEG video file on that DVD being the biggest.

BTW: Make sure the "File type" is set to "all files" NOT "Supported video formats" or you WILL NOT see any of those video files in WMP. You do NOT need to associate any of the file types to play DVDs.

I can play dvds and I don't even have WMP installed. Only Media Player Classic + ffdshow and I'm not sur if ffdshow is needed with Media Player Classic or VLC.

The DVD canalso be region blocked. JM2ct
