JazzCat Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Hi there.I was having a problem with Windows XP Home booting to a blue screen and resetting itself. It gets caught in a loop and I can't boot to safe mode either.I booted the computer using my Win XP CD and, using the recovery console, typed the command "chkdsk /R". The command executes but when it reaches 50%, freezes for some time then, upon reaching 75%, will reset to 50% and begin repairing(?) again. My question is, will this process ever complete or is it just caught in a loop? Also, does this signify a physical problem with my HDD?Any comments appreciated.JazzCat.
Guest Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Not necessarily a physical problem. Did it ever complete? You should be able to get into safe mode by holding down the F8 key right before Windows starts to load.
JazzCat Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 I can get to the menu to boot into Safe Mode by using F8. But when I select Safe Mode, it loads all the system files, goes black, then reboots.I didn't give it a chance to complete incidentally. But it reset itself 3 times.
Tripredacus Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 It may be helpful to find out what is on this blue screen it stops at. Configure the computer to not reboot. When you boot using F8, there will be an option that says "Disable automatic restart on system failure" or something like that. Hit that one, then choose to boot into your OS. It should just show you the screen now and not reboot. Tell us what it says on that screen and we may have a better lead for you.
