  1. Hi there, I am having troubles with the internet. I have an ethernet cable going directly from my speedtouch modem to my laptop's LAN port. When I ping www.google.com at the command prompt, I get some replies, some of the time and some failures aswell. The amount of replies and failures varies but I never get four solid replies. Also, when I go into Internet Explorer, I am getting the "Web site found, waiting for reply" down the bottom left as if it sees the net but will not load www.google.com or any other web page for that matter. So far, I have run malwarebytes and superantispyware to remove bad objects and have completely removed Trend Micro to eliminate firewall issues. Still the same problem. Could this be a bad LAN adapter or do you think it's a virus? Any help appreciated.
  2. I can get to the menu to boot into Safe Mode by using F8. But when I select Safe Mode, it loads all the system files, goes black, then reboots. I didn't give it a chance to complete incidentally. But it reset itself 3 times.
  3. Hi there. I was having a problem with Windows XP Home booting to a blue screen and resetting itself. It gets caught in a loop and I can't boot to safe mode either. I booted the computer using my Win XP CD and, using the recovery console, typed the command "chkdsk /R". The command executes but when it reaches 50%, freezes for some time then, upon reaching 75%, will reset to 50% and begin repairing(?) again. My question is, will this process ever complete or is it just caught in a loop? Also, does this signify a physical problem with my HDD? Any comments appreciated. JazzCat.
