loudnproud Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 In nLite, is there an easy way to move the process of entering info such as username, PC name, timezone, etc. to the END of the windows install as opposed to in the middle where it normally happens ??
Ponch Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I don't know what version you use, but I'd rather say it normally happens almost at the end, not "in the middle". And no, nLite doesn't modify the install process sequences in that matter. You can always use unattended setting and rechange them later.
loudnproud Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Sorry for not clarifying... I'm talking about XP. I remember on an HP that I had once where XP was preinstalled, but in the OOBE you could put in your username, timezone etc.I want to make a slipstreamed XP disc where it prompts me for all the user info in the OOBE at the end of the install. Can this be done with nLite ???
Ponch Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) nLite is (only) for XP. There a many flavors (Home, Pro, unattended, ...fiddled with...). Your clarification is confusing me even more. So you do want OOBE as opposed to something (?) that happened in the middle of installation. If you have OOBE with your original disk and you don't remove it (components section) nor disable it (unattended section), then you still have it in your nLited disk.So I gues what you need to do is get the unattended infos, remake the unattended part of your disk in your nLite session and re-enable OOBE if possible. I'm still not sure about what you had "in the middle" . Edited August 17, 2009 by Ponch
Kelsenellenelvian Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I think he wants a "sysprepped" installation. ponch.
loudnproud Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Sorry for the confusion.I'm talking about XP Professional.Typically in a windows XP install you1. Boot from the CD, enter the Text mode portion of the setup, specify partitions etc then it copies files and reboots.2. It enters the GUI Mode setup and starts setting up the computer3. During the middle of this stage it asks you for info such as Username, Company, Timezone, etc4. Setup then continues on installing the network & components, svcpack etc then finally deletes temporary files and reboots.5. OOBE then starts and asks for information such as turning on automatic updates, network setting, etc.6. Welcome screen appears and you're on the desktop. What I'm asking is if nLite has an option to move step 3 to during step 5. This way I could start an install and go away for 15-20 mins then come back and it be at the OOBE stage and put in ALL the information needed (user, company, timezone, etc) for that system. I know I could enter all the info in nLite and have it completely unattended and then changethe timezone, user & company from the desktop once it's up, but It would be pretty cool if all that info could be entered at the OOBE.Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say ??RegardsJames
g-force Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 asking is if nLite has an option to move step 3 to during step 5What makes the difference?
Ponch Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 So all the info is entered in one go and you don't have to keep an eye on the installation then click some boxes, then go have a second coffee then come back for OOBE.
