Change Windows XP installation Key

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i have windows xp iso that made by nlite.but how can i change installation serial without making new iso?

thanks

sam1984, I am curious why you would want to change the key. Is the copy of Windows and the key valid and legal? The key is in the winnt.sif file. If you have an ISO, then extract it (I use 7-Zip) and change the key, then rebuild an ISO. You must have a legal copy of Windows and key first. Enjoy, John.

its legal copy of windows but when i made ISO i entered it wrong and i dont want to make it because it waste time.

thanks alot

Do you want to change the key on a running XP ? If that is the case, there are explanations on how to do it on Microsoft's site.

If that is not the case, and you do want to rebuild the ISO but just not go through the complete nLite process, just change the key in Winnt.sif, restart nLitze and only choose "build ISO" in the options menu. That will take 2 minutes.

Use a hex editor to edit the key string in the ISO. I just tested searching for a piece of the string and it's in 2 places so make sure you edit both entries.
