I've got IE8 installing unattended, but every time I open it up for the first time, I have to run through the IE8 settings choices..the ones for comptability updates, search provider choice, etc.

Does anyone know of a way that I can apply these automatically?

I'm also searching a solution for that. I think that can be done with an IE-Unattended Kit from Microsoft, but I don't know the exact name of it.

Would be nice if anyone can give a tutorial.

I recommend downloading Regshot(click the Загрузить button), going into IE options, advanced, reset settings so that the wizard runs again and see the settings it applies for you.

-X-: the thing about those settings is, they'll only work for the current user. Not newly created users.

Personally, I only use IE as a Firefox downloader, so no idea (and at work, I force IE settings using group policy)

That's not what I said. I said that once they create a new user on that box, those new users will still have to go through all this. Settings chosen via IEAK (last I checked at least) will also work for new users.

As for updates, I've stopped using IE for that a couple years ago too (Vista & Win 7 don't use IE for that anymore).

They were asking for other methods. I don't think an IEAK'd IE setup file can be slipstreamed.

Like Geej and maxXPsoft said, switch off first run customisation and you can apply all your preferences to the default user.
