This is huge news, it means it's actually done, as in done period; Server 2008 R2 is also "done"!

Today they are also announcing that Windows Server 2008 R2 has RTM’d.

Humm, I question the final build number. Vista build number was 16386. If you can produce an MS reference with that build number, I'd believe it.

I’m off to download the bits internally and upgrade my machines. The final geek kudos for Windows 7 is getting the RTM bits installed before you buddies. Sad but true. The final build number for Long and others is 7600.16385.090713-1255

That is the October 22nd release, the current RTM is 16385.

Correct. This is the RTM build string used for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

I'm guessing they will just bump up the number a little on the retail version then? Sounds great though! And many manufacturers have already made drivers etc for win 7 thanks to MS's two free public releases so upgrading will not be difficult at all!

No, this is *the* build. It will not change, OEM, retail, or VL. Everyone will be running 16385.

16386 from Vista means, that they were 2 recompiles of the original RTM code. For Windows 7 there was only 1 recompile.

home users will get fixes as updates released on Windows update / download center / support after 22nd October.
