.NET Framework 2.0 Won't Install (98SE)

When I run the .NET Framework 2.0 setup it goes about halfway and then errors, saying:

Error 25015. Failed to install assembly 'c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\microsoft.visualbasic.vsa.dll' There may be more data available.

I googled about and found a few fixes, rename the assembly folder, delete the v2.0.50727 folder, etc etc.. I also tried running the setup in kernelex xp mode for the heck of it. All no good.

It must have just been too late at night for me to think of that - it gets past that point in the install just fine now.
