SP2 installtion Problem

Hi every one :) glad to be a member of MSFN Forums ;)

Im facing a problem with installing a Windows Vista 64bit Service Pack 2

I got Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Non-Service Pack DVD, I tryed to Slipstream SP1 into it and it was a successful slipstream, I've installed a Fresh Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 (made by vlite) and every thing went somthly.

After the installtion of the Windows I tryed to install a stand alone Service Pack 2 and I got error says:

Error: ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND(0x80070002)

and here's a SS for the Error:

http://aam.1407.googlepages.com/Error_SS.jpg

I clicked on the link shown in the SS error (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=122602)

and I installed System Update Readiness Tool and restarted my PC after that then tryed to install the SP2 again but still the same error,

after that I tryed to install all the Updates that shown on Windows Update (55 updates), after installing all the updates I Checked for another updates but it says "Windows is Up to Date"

after that I tryed again to install SP2 and yet I got the same error that shown on the SS,

Now I GIVE UP, I dont know what else to do to make the SP2 installed successfully, Please Help :)

Sorry for my bad language, and thank you for reading my problem ;)

Hello and welcome to THE forums! :hello: Could you post the lastsession.ini from your vlite disk? It seems that you removed some files necessary for the upgrade.

From what I see, there is NO reason on earth to use vLite to remove only a few things... What happens if you install a clean SP1 Vista then run SP2 installer?

Posted

Thanks for ur reply :)

I used vlite for a few things,

1- to slipstream SP1.

2- to Intgrate Chipset, VGA, RAID and sound drivers.

3- To minimize the size to less than 4GB to copy the installtion files to a 4GB USB flash memory.

4- to make an unattended Windows installtion.

these are the reasons why I used vlite,

if u r asking for a full last session copy then there it is :

you can't install Sp2 if you remove at least 1 component from Vista!

Read the sticky about Sp2 slipstreaming and make your own Sp2 Image and use this Install.wim as surce for using it with vLite!

Are you refrering to this topic:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=134783

I dont see any topic talks about how to slipstream SP2 , if there is a guide for please give me a link for it :)

in the topic (link above) they mentioned something about downloading an ISO image "Download the ISO image from your MSDN"

what do I have to do to get an ISO image from MSDN ? do I have to get a sponser member or there are other things to do ?

and lets not go of the topic , so all I need is to install a Windows Vista SP1 withour removing any components and then install a SP2 stand alone ? it will work like that ?

Thank you for ur time ;)

You're probably out of luck:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968279

This problem occurs because system components that are required to install Windows Vista SP2 are not present on your computer.

However, a common reason for this problem is that the vLite software was used to customize the Windows Vista installation and some required system components were removed.

Like MagicAndre1981 mentioned, there are three links in that topic that guide you step-by-step on how to slipstream service packs (the links are very hard to miss).

No - you can get the ISO image from MSDN ONLY if you have a subscription to it (which costs $$$$$). If you already have an original Vista DVD, there is no need to get an MSDN subscription. Just slipstream SP1 with vLite and THEN slipstream SP2 using the reverse integration method mentioned in the topic. If you don't want to bother with the reverse integration method, slipstream SP1 using vLite without removing anything, install it on your PC, and then install SP2.

some people tried this on a german board and it fails when doing sysprep with a MSDTC error. using the Audit mode to install first Sp1 and Sp2 seams to work.

Where's nuhi when things go terribly wrong... :}

You better correct me in the other topic then, or else people are going to start yelling at me.

Hmmmm ok thank you guys very much , I'm going for a copy of windows vista SP1 then install a SP2 manually (ofc without removing any components)

I guess I'll need to solve the 4GB ISO problem first :/ (ISO Image over 4GB)

Thank you very much ;)

If you use a USB key to install, and it's formatted FAT32, there doesn't appear to be a size limit to how large your source can be - it's only a problem for creating an ISO.

I haven't installed SP2 until;

I had installed version 6000, then update SP1, and then update SP2.

Version 6001 that has been integrated update SP1 by using vLite, will not work during install update SP2.
