I have pieced together a system using a board from an HP COMPAQ D530 SFF. System information is listed below. After many attempts with different speakers (that I know are working) and four different sound cards plugged into different PCI slots, I still am unable to get any sound. Drivers installed properly in device manager and, as far as I can tell, everything is properly configured.

The only thing that is going on that I cannot really explain would be a message I received 'power surge on hub port'. This messaged appeared after I had plugged in my flash drive as well as the speaker cable into the back of the PC.

Do I need a stronger power supply? I am a little bit confused since the sound worked in the HP computer before I removed the board from it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, you're trying to get another sound card working in a machine that already has integrated on-board audio. What you'll have to do (and what I suggest doing) is disable the on-board audio in your BIOS, disable the on-board audio in your device manager (if it still appears in the list), then physically install whatever sound card you want into a free PCI slot, and finally, install whatever drivers XP may ask for. I highly doubt having a stronger power supply would fix the problem (or for that matter, have anything to do with your initial problem).

It all started because the integrated audio did not work, which is why I tried pci sound cards. I just wanted the sound to work. Period. I will disable the on-board sound in bios and see if that works; however, every sound card I installed on top of the integrated audio resulted in no longer having the integrated audio listed in device manager.

My issue is that I know the integrated sound worked previously, so I am wondering if there is something that I am missing?

D530 SFF boards are a right pain in the hoop.

Reset the bios defaults and try again. Make sure you also download Hp driver SP27103

Older drivers and some newer ones give off a chipmunk style effect
