What is IE Core?

Hello,

I removed IE from Windows XP SP 3 but kept the IE core.

I'm a bit curious of what is removed. I have noticed that the IE folder in C:\Program files is empty from files.

For example: If I in the run dialog type "explorer myfile.htm", the same - bad - old IE is launched.

So, How much of IE is removed?

It seems pointless when Windows explorer is IE in disguise.

Couldn't some more files have been removed in order to disable Windows explorer's ability to display html pages?

I feel that I still have the IE browser even though iexplore.exe and maybe some more files are removed.
