IrnBruKid Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 When I am on my Laptop and when a UAC prompt is about to appear the screen goes blank and a squeeking noise comes from around the hard drive area. The problem also appears when I am logging on or off. It happens in both Windows Vista and 7 since I dual boot the Laptop. I know it probably isn't a software issue since i've clean installed to try and cure the problem. My guess is that the Hard Disk is faulty. Does anyone have any ideas to what the problem is?Hard Disk SpecsFujitsu MHW2120BH 120GB 2.5" HDD 5400rpmMany thanks in advance
go6o_kara Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 http://www.hdtune.com/Get the free version, check SMART status and run a bad sector check<takes about 1hr>.Use the build-in defragment program, usually a highly fragmented volume cause this noise.
IrnBruKid Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks for the reply but unfotunatly HDTune didn't fix the problem . After talking to some friends about the problem I have decided to treat myself to a new hard disk with much a bigger capacity. I'll let you know how the new hard disk is when it arrives which might be a while. If the new HD dosen't fix the problem at least I will have much more room for storage on my hard disk. Thanks for the help.IrnBruKid
