CD & DVD discs and the Blue Screen of Death!

Hello,

I new and am seeking the wisdom of you folks who have to be way more level headed than myself. Im not even sure this is the right forum to be in, Ive searched and couldnt find anyone with my problem. Here goes:

My system: Windows XP Gen 3 -Media Edition 2002, SP2.

My CD- recorder & DVD-recorder Drives are driving me nuts. Some times they work and some times they crash. The type of disc doesn’t matter, the system will crash on either. I get that stupid blue screen of death, and different stop codes every time, I cant possibly keep track of them all. I put a cd-r last week and made a music cd with no problems. Im also able to watch dvd’s on my computer.

I just put in a CD-rw a few minutes ago to work on some photos I had stored, and kablamo, blue screen. This happened last month with a dvd-r in which I had stored photos and music. I chalked it up to a bad dvd, but this is getting nuts. I cant believe all of my discs are bad.

Ive tried just about everything I can think of except one thing and that’s replacing both drives. Both drives will be 5 years old this August.

So does anyone out there think these problems can be coming on because the drives are going bad?

I really would appreciate some insight before I pull out the rest of my hair or freaking punch this computer out.

Thank you in advance. mac

Looks more your motherboard that has a problem. I would reinstall the motherboard drivers first. Also check for bad capacitors on the motherboard as it also could be a hardware problem.
