hal.dll error on multiple settings

Hello. I feel like this right now: :realmad:

I've been working on getting XP on my eeePC 900a and I keep getting the hal.dll error. I've read so many threads and all the help files available, followed the directions, but can't seem to get things to work. The most popular remedy for this problem is to change the partition number in boot.ini, but that accomplishes nothing. I'm using the usb_multiboot_10 package and following instructions from http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...900&noref=1

I've also tried using various copies of XP, including XP SP3 corporate, SP2 home, and others. hal.dll error comes up everytime. I have used multiple USB sticks, SD cards, and tried all three USB ports on the computer. It's quite frustrating.

If you guys need more info, let me know.

Thanks, ilko_t. I followed the instructions in that thread and it all worked out. The only thing I did was alter the boot.ini when I come to the gui installation with this:

[Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 0 part 1" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 0 part 2" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 0 part 3" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 1 part 1" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 1 part 2" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Second part of XP Professional setup from hd 1 part 3" /FASTDETECT

Selected the first option and it went through. Had to do that one more time after the gui finished and now everything is fantastic.

Thanks again!
