DerSnoezie Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I have a 7200.11 that I purchased in October. I have had it running for many hours daily since mid October. It is still working but is it going to be affected by this problem? These are the details of my drive:Barracuda 7200.11ST3640323ASS/N: 5VK05SJFP/N: 9FZ134-568Firmware: SD35Data Code: 09077: August 22, 2008Purchased from Newegg in CaliforniaBased on your firmware version and serial number I would say you're on the safe side. If it's not making strange clicking noises and diagnostic tools don't come up with bad sectors, etc. it will run along fine. I hope
Nichev Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 They pulled the webpage I quoted in my chat log pretty quickly, luckily I still have the page open in my browser. Here is the text:Welcome, Seagate hard drive owners. A number of Seagate hard drives from the following families may fail when the host system is powered on:Barracuda 7200.11DiamondMax 22FreeAgent DeskOneTouch 4Barracuda ES.2 SATAPipeline HDPipeline HD ProSV35Once a drive has failed, the data is inaccessible to users. Seagate has isolated this issue to a firmware bug affecting drives from these families manufactured through December 2008. Please use the following tools and instructions to determine if you have one of the affected products. If you do, we recommend that you update the firmware on the disk drive. To help determine if you need to pursue this any further, you will need to check your model number, serial number and firmware revision. Here is the text:Awesome, nice job! So, at least we know the list of models affected (I am guessing any of those with SD15 firmware?) and that they are going to have a firmware update to resolve the issues...the question is WHEN!

frallanfree Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The page you snapped from their site, does it mean that their going to get out a update/fix to all our failed drives or must the drive be unlocked from bsy mode until we can use it when its released. And on the recovery of the password how is it going? And have somebody maked any progress on the LBA=0 fix yet?I think we are great team that doing everything to get our data back and bust up seagate that son of a bi**hes

So data recovery will still be our problem.. And if it's reset, by using a recovery kit or other means, I guess you can update it. Edited January 15, 2009 by DerSnoezie

Ultimately seagate corp itself is the expert on this problem. But first we have to wait until seagate puts up the definitive page. If your drive then matches the description, you will be requiring an update.
DerSnoezie Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Well I'm off for some sleep now. Tomorrow's going to be an exciting day - with a possible official statement from seagate -, but I won't be back until late. Work Work Work.. Kick their asses for me will you?
