lasselind Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 HiI recently bought a Asus Box with Windows XP Home Edition,, planned to use it as a small server. My idea is to manage it using a remote desktop connection from my main computer running Vista. Unfortunately this is not working. Trying to connect I get a message simular to:"Remote Desktop Disconnected" This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try to connect again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or the network administrators.I've disabled all firewalls, enabled all things that I think can affect this. What to do?//lasse
knowitall_wannabe Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 XP Home Edition does not have Remote Desktop accessibility. You need to load XP Professional instead, check mark the remote settings in your "My Computer" properties and then you'll be able to access it from your laptop.
knowitall_wannabe Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 use vnc as the alternative...Good call Kindovic.
midiman Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Use UltraVnc. Its a small remote access utility. Just install the Server on your laptop. Then install the viewer on the machine that you want to view from. Connect using the IP address on the machine that you want to view. Its pretty straight forward to use.
