Unlocker utility for 98

If you'd have went to the website (part of the download link in question) -

http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

you'll see that it's only for 2K,XP,2K3,Vista...

( question would have been answered without making a new topic ;) )

Anyone know what OP means about a "locked file" in Win98/98SE? Files are usually "locked" when in-use (right/wrong?)...

I DID study the unlocker website before posting my question. I know that it's developed in the W2k era, and that's why I asked if anyone tried it in 98.

Actually, I expect the answer to be "No". Hence, the key is the second part of the post.

When a file is in use (locked), I got a "sharing violation" message if I attempted copying it.

What file are you having a problem with? WIN386.SWP will always be "locked" on a running system, and must not be "unlocked". All others will be "unlocked" unless "opened" by an application (the SWP file is always opened whether you like it or not).

Please be more specific as to what needs "unlocked" and why you need to (copying the main HDD in its entirety will halt at the WIN386.SWP).

I'm working on a temporary file which is 'locked' by an embedded Flash player. On the temporary directory, it is showing FLAxxxx.TMP with 0 size.

There are several "index.dat" files in Win98(SE), that can't be accessed, too.

All of those seem to belong to IE, somehow.

Though, I did only notice this on MS Backup.

Won't ever surf the web with a system component...
