beefdrifter Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) Hello all Sorry, I don't really know where this question should belong, so if it's in the wrong place... I've been cleaning my computer recently and managed to accumulate a large heap of files for deletion. But before I do that I want to create a list of the files I deleted for archival purposes. It would be impossible to do this manually however since there are (literally) millions of files, so I tried out some directory list generation programs. So far the best one is Directory Lister Pro, it can export the list as a HTML file with tables and stuff (unlike most which can only generate txt files) but the list is very linear (one straight column, no directory levels) and with millions of files it would be fairly useless when you want to go through the list.So my question is - are there any programs that can generate a file (html maybe?) that has a file manager like structure? (ie expandable/collapsible file tree) It would really make everything easier, and you would assume something like this exists already This is a generated list for a test directory.http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq113/b...o/dirlist01.pngThis is what I was hoping would be possible, minus the rainbow colours . Think file manager.http://www.skinningtoolkit.com/DOTNETNUKEC...14/Default.aspxThanks! Edited December 2, 2008 by beefdrifter
Geej Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Give this a try : YourDir Can save output as .csv or .gif or both if u want
beefdrifter Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Hello Geej!I was thrilled to see the clearly structured gifs the app created, but when I tried it on my real target, it was unable to save the file I have a feeling it's because the tree is too massive. So yeah..Also it'd be nice if the tree can be clicked to collapse/expandStill, thanks for your quick reply!
Geej Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Frankly, i don't think u could find anything that can generate a pulldown-menu-style list. Like u said, too much info to store.Hopefully, I'm wrong. Happy searching...
beefdrifter Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Hmm, yeah. Well, thanks anyway I'll keep on searching, maybe something will come up eventually.
submix8c Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Google on "karen's directory printer" or "karenware". It's the first one that pops up. Look it over. It should do what you want. And it's FREE!
Kelsenellenelvian Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 http://www.krksoft.com/DirLister.exe <-- Here it is. Free, simple and quite featurefull!!!
submix8c Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) http://www.krksoft.com/DirLister.exe <-- Here it is. Free, simple and quite featurefull!!!Apologies, but screen shots are very similar to this -http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptdirprn.aspRoughly 1.3mb installer - http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-setup.exeRequires VB6 Runtimes - http://www.karenware.com/progs/vbrun60-setup.exeSource available - http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-src.exeFree! Period! Forever!Features of DirLister appear to have additional Sound File Info listed, otherwise, very much the same...Drawback of DirPrn - only Text output (HTML a feature OP wanted but not provided). You could, I suppose, use the "\" as a delimiter to load into a Word Processor "table" or "spreadsheet". (That's what I do).No, I don't think this is "pushing" anything, just saying... I've used this for years and like it, so I "promote" it (it IS free, ya know). I suppose one might modify the Source (non-distributable, of course).BTW, Thx for the link. I'll probably give it a try too (is it a non-expiring Trial or is it also 30-days?). It appears to be a "previous version" of DirLister Pro.Edit -Ok, I get the OP's drift. They want an Explorer-type expand/collapse HTML Tree View output. Never seen one like that. You might want to just get the Text output and convert it via programmatic methods to something you want.Good Luck on your project, beefdrifter! Edited December 5, 2008 by submix8c
