what is that 2gb unknown file sitting in my C drive?

Hi there,

I used a file system inspect program (TreeSize) to view my C drive, and noticed there's 2Gb file sitting in my C drive with no name. I tried to delete it via command prompt or window explorer; no luck cause I can only see that no-name file in TreeSize.

I thought maybe it was some file used by window restore, I had it turn off, restart.... and the file still there.

Here's my concern:

1) how to determine what uses that file?

2) can that be delete? Since i can't view'em via command prompt nor window explorer, plus I have administrative right in this box

Thank you.

Is hibernation enabled? Do you have 2GB of RAM in the machine?

If so, it's hiberfil.sys. You can reclaim that 2GB if you're really concerned about it by disabling hibernation, but otherwise it's harmless.

i dont think thats A 2Gb file. i think its saying there are 2Gb OF files (total) contained in C:\

oh and even though ive never used that program i think i can safely say that windirstat is superior to Treesize

geek, thx for the suggestion. i installed WinDirStat and it showed that 2gb file is pagefile.sys, looks like i have 2gb swap in my machine which matches my 2gb ram.
