hi, i downgraded my video card from R9000 to RV100. Then I wanted to put the R9000 back by uninstalling the driver via control panel, install hardware, and reinstall the driver i downloaded from ATI (according to AMD's website, RV100 and R9000 uses same driver). during installation, winxp kept telling me my driver is corrupted and my video adapter needs to be in standard vga first. there's no "standard vga" to pick from Device Manager, and I can't reinstall my R9000 back to my box. Right now, I wanted to manually delete all the video drivers I've installed in window, but I don't know what to look for (other then inf files). what registery/path contains all the video drivers window uses, so i can forcefully take'em away? thank you

geek, thx for the suggestion. i installed WinDirStat and it showed that 2gb file is pagefile.sys, looks like i have 2gb swap in my machine which matches my 2gb ram.

Hi there, I used a file system inspect program (TreeSize) to view my C drive, and noticed there's 2Gb file sitting in my C drive with no name. I tried to delete it via command prompt or window explorer; no luck cause I can only see that no-name file in TreeSize. I thought maybe it was some file used by window restore, I had it turn off, restart.... and the file still there. Here's my concern: 1) how to determine what uses that file? 2) can that be delete? Since i can't view'em via command prompt nor window explorer, plus I have administrative right in this box Thank you. p.s.: image attached for view

aahh thanks for the tips icemanND, I totally forgot my laptop is running ntfs on C, and fat32 on D. So I bet the vm image was created in ntfs or something... any ways to convert it so I can copy the file to fat32 drive? thanks!

hi, I have a 6gb vm image I wanna copy to my D drive from a external hd, and window complains my D drive is full. I then inspect the drive using TreeView and see I still have 43g left (I'm able to see invisible folders) While I was trying to figure out how come I can't copy, and I noticed I have another vm image in another external hd which worth 20gb, and i can't copy those successfully. As I was thinking if it has to do with permission... I then go back to the first 6gb vm and copy to my C:/ and sure enough, no problem! In a nutshell, I have plenty of space in my D, but I can't copy a 6gb file into it. Yet I can copy it to my C hence there's no permission problem. Any thoughts on that? Thank you

What happened was...the file will be open by other program of my choice no problem, but when mouse over, you'll still see that "Type JCreator" as well as the icon assoicate with the the program I uninstalled. Like spacesufer said, the uninstaller was buggy... Thank you.

Hi, if we install a software on winxp and we let it to specific the file type to associate with the program (ie. wvm for window media player), then all file extension ended with that specific extension will display an icon which associate with that particular software. what happen when we uninstall software, but the specified file type still carry those icon, how can we delete it? in my case, i've downloaded a program call: JCreator which is a editor for *.java file. It turned all the *.java file into its program icon. When place mouse over, it'll say "Type: JCreator". I have uninstalled that program and the icon and that "Type: JCreator" is still in every *.java file. How and where can I remove it? Thank you.

i was able to view the dump file, but lack of window knowledge, I have no idea what I was really look at all i issued was: dumpchk.exe myFile.dmp and i got these (basically its complaining i don't have the correct symbols, but I don't see any symbol files from the dump directory) anyone know how to read this? aahh after take a look at the EventViewer - System section very carefully, i found the following msg: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000000a (0x80000011, 0x0000001c, 0x00000000, 0x804fc495). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini072108-02.dmp. Now that I found the dmp file, I noticed its nothing but a brunch of monster characters. What program can analysis the dmp file? Thank you!

hi there, this happens to me quite a few times at work that, my xp auto reboot after idle for a while. the first time when it happened, i thought it must be window update crap, but after this happens few more time, I got a bad feeling my box has been hacked? Hi, I don't know how I got this. I'm suspecting it is some kind of bug from window update because my xp was fine under after window update from yesterday... [before] supposedly, whenever I run a program, you'll see a window at the taskbar. If you open a many programs, those window will become smaller and smaller, and squeeze within that taskbar. [now] when I run a program, a 2 scrollbars and 2 windows shows on my taskbar. one at the left by the start menu, the other one at the right by the traybar. It doesn't even require me to open many program to show the scrollbar, all I need just open 2, and there will be 2 scrollbars and 4 windows. [fix] I went to google around, and I think I'm able to fix half of the problem: right click taskbar-->uncheck (lock task bar) -->in task bar vertical dot lines will appear which can move around across task bar -->move the one with scroll bar(that has jamed open programs ) to left and all of them will appear one by one through task bar and then scroll bar will dissapper. [unfinish business] the above method helped me remove the scroll bar by the start menu, but somehow the scrollbar (and the window) by the traybar still there. Right now, say if I open 2 program. the window icon looks fine by the start menu, but I'll see the exact same window icons with scrollbar by the traybar. Any thoughts on that? thank you.

per title... currently, I check the logged user by going to mmc, iis, right click ftp, properties, "current session". It'll be nice if there's a command line tool for me to do the same thing. Thank you

p.s: I forgot to mention, that WorkOne machine is able to access other shared information on the domain, but no other machine is about to access info from WorkOne. So it is obvious to me that WorkOne is actually on the domain, don't know if that would help troubleshoot the problem

Am I suppose to check that from win2k3 AD level, or am I suppose to check it at WorkOne physically? -WorkOne is connected to a printer, and I am 100% possible that printer is shared to everyone (just checked yesterday). However, I can't even access that printer. I don't know if it has to do with permission again? -is there's any reason why i can access to WorkOne through net by using IP address and not hostname? -I didn't removed and re-add WorkOne to the domain, but other then me, there is another person have access to administrator acct (and he's gone for vacation). suppose if that is the case, should i go ahead and remove workone from the domain and re-add it? thank you for your time

Hi, I'm administrating a small office network using 2 w2k3 servers, and all client machines are running xp sp2. Today, I discovered there is 1 machine I am unable to access through net. I see the icon of that machine (lets call WorkOne) and when I double click it, err says: \\WorkOne is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect. so I tried google it, but it the result was talking about SPN or replic about w2k3. Well, 2k3 is working fine. I can access it through net, in fact I can access every other machines through net except "this" one. So I don't know what could cause the problem. Then I tried access it again through net using IP instead of hostname (\\192.168.1.xxx), and it work...., (the only diff is, normally when I double click the icon, it won't ask me for username and password, but this time it does...i don't know why) then I think maybe the DNS has problem? I tried look at AD under MMC, I have the correct computer name (WorkOne). And then I tried ping the hostname under cmd: ping workone, sure enough I got response also. So DSN is recongize it... Now I'm lost, and I don't know how to trouble shoot this problem, please feel free ask me more questions, so I can futher narrow down the root causing problem. Conclusion: I want anyone in the office to be able to double click the icon "Workone" at their own computer without the need to provide username and password, in order to access the shared resouces. LLXX, Thank you for the tips... it is good to know default path always search from local directory then move on to system32 directory and so on. However, this is my first time try to make objects for VBA programmer and ASP programmer (not to metion they don't know any better then I do) Would you mind show me the steps how you would do it; after you have your dll files compiled using VS.NET, what exactly would you do so that both ASP application and VBA application can use'em? I'm quite confuse with the term "local directory" when it comes to VBA (Access) application and ASP application, since I don't exactly know local refer to the "local" directory they are working with, or "local" directory where VBA is installed (access has its own folder, so as MS word and excel...etc) Your steps in detail will be very helpful, thank you for your time.

Hi, say I write a simple program and compiled in VS.NET called: test.dll my problems are the following: 1) if I bring it to the client's machine and type: regsvr32 test.dll, it'll complains test.dll is registered but It can't be load, DllRegisterServer entry point was not found 2) after google a brunch, seems like the only time I need to do regsvr32 is when it is Active-X com object, so in this case I should be able to use the dll file by just copy to certain folder 2a) don't know which folder will make logical sense which I should copy to 2b) can't locate my dll file through regedit 2c) set test = CreateObject("test") doesn't work in ASP 2d) VBA can't find my dll either Now I'm back to step 1, I got a test.dll file and I'd like to send to a client's machine, so the VBA program (or ASP) from client machine can use the objects that I've wrote. a) how to register in a logical manner (should I have them make themselves a folder so I can dumb all my dlls init instead of WinNT/System32 )? But I'm just a broke a$$ developer who tried to put a piece of crap machine together as cheap as possible so I can start writing software for my client. After I got paid, then I will invest into a better machine. I hope window won't die on my before my development is over heheh. After I installed xp SP2 and Visual Studio.NET, I only got 3G left. I haven't even install SQL server and some other junks yet. I wouldn't even bother to put two 10G harddisk together into the same drive if i wasn't running outta space. Oh well, lets hope this box will get me through my project, so I can get some $ to buy a better machine IMHO. Once again, thank you guys.
