LDouglasLJr Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I have an HP DL145 that I need to get W2K loaded on. It has an Adaptec 2120s array controller card in it and thus would need the drivers to be able to load the OS onto it. It will not accept a USB floppy drive and HP ever verified that this is a known issue on some of the 145s.This is the first time I've created a slipstreamed cd but it seemed to go fine. I was able to get the SP4 integrated and only a few drivers, chipset, nic, video and array. Nothing else. The cd boots fine, it loads the SP, lets me put in the cd key, the user name and organization, administrator password but as soon as I get to the Time Zone, no matter what I do the install just locks up there. Any help would be great. Thanks.
johnhc Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 LDouglasLJr,I am on shaky ground here, because I know almost nothing about W2K. What Window's version did you run nLite under? If XP, did you use W2K Compatibility mode? Did you install W2K drivers including the text mode driver for the array controller? Did you nLite the same source more than once? Always use a fresh copy of your CD source files/folders. Please attach (not paste) your LastSession.ini.Good luck, John.
LDouglasLJr Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 John, first off thanks for any help you can provide. I did run nlite under XP Pro, I did not see the W2K compabality mode that you speak of. Where is that located at? I am also using the newest version of nlite as well, if that helps any. I've also uploaded my lastsession.ini file as you asked. I did not nlite that same source more then once. The install goes very well, just hangs at the Time Zone. Frustrating really. johnhc Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 LDouglasLJr,I see nothing in your LastSession that looks suspicious to me. To try in Compatibility Mode: Open your Program Files folder-right click nLite.exe-select Properties-select Compatibility tab-check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and in the pull down list select Windows 2000. Be sure to start fresh. Please let us know if this helps.Enjoy, John.
LDouglasLJr Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 I did not get a chance to try this yesterday but will be doing this first thing this morning. As for compatibility mode, I was thinking inside the program itself not from the properties itself. Guess I was just to frustrated yesterday to think straight. Again will be starting fresh here in a little bit, will post back the results.
LDouglasLJr Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Did not work, in fact made it worse. The cd created in compatibility mode will not recognize the scsi array at all.
jaclaz Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 What you can try is using an unmodified (but for adding the grldr as no-emulation bootsector+ menu.lst+floppy image) source CD and the grub4dos floppy trick to use "normal" F6 Storage drivers:http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=20543It is also possible that the USB floppy actually works but some files need to be modified:http://www.msfn.org/board/F6-Driver-USB-Floppy-t82711.htmlSince you have no way to actually test and see whether nlite unwantingly causes the problem, the above may be a path worth a shot or two.jaclaz
johnhc Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 jaclaz,I am pretty much out of ideas. Please attach your aac.inf file, so we can take a look. The only other things I can think of is to nLite under W2K or perhaps try an integration with only the text mode driver.Sorry I can't get a grip.John.
LDouglasLJr Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks for those links. I'm looking at the top one first. Have never used grub before so not real sure of how to use it and such but will be giving it a try.
LDouglasLJr Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Here's the acc.inf file for you to take a look at. Thanks for all the help. This server will get built one way or another.aac.inf
jaclaz Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks for those links. I'm looking at the top one first. Have never used grub before so not real sure of how to use it and such but will be giving it a try. It's not grub, it's grub4dos.Grub4dos grldr can be used as no-emulation CD bootsector.Syntax is mostly the same as grub, though you won't need to study it too much, the linked post gives a good example.Just in case:Grub4dos help:http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/Grub4dos.htmhttp://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/...ll.htm#method10How I burn Cd's using grldr as no-emulation bootsectors:http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...18045&st=25Get a good working release of grub4dos:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...pic=14&st=1 either here:http://grub4dos.jot.com/This one is OK:http://grub4dos.jot.com/WikiHome/grub4dos-...-2008-05-14.zip?or try latest here:http://nufans.net/grub4dos/jaclaz,I am pretty much out of ideas. Please attach your aac.inf file, so we can take a look.I would gladly post my aac.inf, if I had one , and had a problem with it.... Thanks anyway. jaclaz
johnhc Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Sorry, jaclaz, I addressed the wrong person.LDouglasLJr,I think what I meant is do you have a txtsetup.oem in the folder with the .inf file?Have you considered nLiteing your source and only the text mode driver?Good luck, John.
johnhc Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 LDouglasLJr,I asked Kurt_Aust (has posts on making complete ISO's for XP x64 and W2K). He uses XP x64 to nLite his x64 W2K with no problems and expects that the 32 bit should also work. Here's his W2K discussion.Enjoy, John.
