mynewsin
As previously told in forum, :http://www.msfn.org/board/Vista-after-logo...rs-t124150.htmllaptop was infected with virus., and i removed itNow, after removing virus using stinger tool, (and this situation was before too), so its not related to virus:1. When the system boots, it shows HP Logo, no other key works except Esc. key, which when pressed shows some messages like BIOS version (Phoenix trustedCore...) and last 2 lines on black screen shows:System BIOS ShadowedVideo BIOS Shadowed2. Also, DVD drive sometimes works , and sometimes its light remain on (yellow color), and it also does not open, and sometimes it works. It(computer) pauses(at BIOS black screen) for approx. 4-5 minutes, and sometimes stuck here for 10 minutes. after that it boots. My question:What could be the problem for such pause? What components i can pinpoint which are causing it?Is it indication for anyotehr failure of hardware in future.? puntoMX
What happens if you leave the DVD-WR drive open? This seems more a hardware problem than a software problem.
mynewsin
If i leave the DVD-WR drive open (at boot time using pin), nothing special happens, i.e.,:computer pauses for same 5-7 minutes, and sometimes 10-15 minutes.Earlier it was working perfectly. its been a year since i purchased this pricey laptop (HP dv6516tx).Please help me in finding out the problem, so that i can fix it or know before-hand doing critical work(official work) on it.Thanks puntoMX for replying. What happens if you leave the DVD-WR drive open? This seems more a hardware problem than a software problem. puntoMX
You´re welcome, but this puzzles me a bit too. I do repair laptops but never seen this behavior before.I would check:- The Memory with MEMtest,- Take out the battery and see if it helps,- Look if the ventilator is spinning up when pushing the start button,- Reseat the RAM,- BIOS reset/restore defaults,- Use a life-CD/DVD, Linux based so it´s legal and for free,- Backup the important data and reinstall Vista. That´s all you can do, flashing the BIOS isn´t an option in my eyes and if nothing helps than I have to point to the motherboard itself or the HDD and DVD-RW drive. Andromeda43
That problem is made more difficult to troubleshoot because it's a laptop, but,the problem is NOT restricted to laptops.Anytime the bios cannot properly read a drive on the system, it will hang.If the drive is improperly specified in the bios settings, the boot will hang.On a desktop, I'd say just reach in and unplug the CD drive and try booting. On a laptop, that's not so easy. However you might try resetting the bios and let the bios reset itself to the drive. It may just be that the drive is Defective. On some laptops, removing the CD drive is as simple as pressing a little latch and pulling the drive out.If I had that PC here on the bench, I'd try removing the CD drive and then resetting the bios and then see if it boots up normally. It sure won't hurt to try.Good Luck, B)
RJARRRPCGP
The wrong disk drive (if you have PATA drives) jumper setting can cause the BIOS to take forever. I had that problem with a Gateway Essential 500 (PIII Katmai 500 mhz) and then found out that a disk drive jumper was where it wasn't supposed to be. cluberti
Agreed. Thankfully, on most laptops (and this one too), the optical drives are removable (Removal and replacement procedures > Component replacement procedures > Optical drive). I'd start by removing the drive and seeing if anything changes.
