Jason_A Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) Hi all,I have a computer that came with Vista Home Basic pre-installed. The Product Key is on the side of the computer. When I purchased it, I immediately switched back to my Windows XP Pro -- but I now want to go back to my Home Basic, but unfortunately, the key is already activated. What number do I need to ring in order to get it re-activated? And, how much extra would it be for me to get an Home Premium key? Or would I have to pay full price?Regards,Jason Edited September 27, 2008 by Jason_A
Kotuku Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Assuming this is a legit request, just go ahead an re-install Vista using the disk that came with the Computer (or the restore partition on the HD). When it comes to validating/registering the Vista, do it electronically. It will either accept or reject that validation/registration. If it doesn't accept it should give you a phone number (toll free) for what ever country you are in to talk this through with an MS representative. If all genuine and the checksums of your computer hardware match what was recorded at the first registration, then there will be zero hassles
Jason_A Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 I don't have a CD, though -- it came pre-installed. How much extra would it be to upgrade to Premium? Would I have to pay full price or not? Thanks for the reply.
Tripredacus Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 How did you load up Home Basic without the media to see if they key was in use or not? You can see if you can get a recovery disc from the manufacturer of your computer. Home Basic to Premium costs $80.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v...e-overview.aspx
IcemanND Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 If you didn't make the recovery media for your machine you will have to get a copy of it from the manufacturer.
