Cannot open .chm files

Don't kow why .chm files don't open now, giving a message:

Cannot open the file:mk@MSITSTORE:.....(here the adress of any .chm file).

Never had problems with it.

hh.exe is correctly configured. Everything else is OK.

Any idea about what might have happened?

Thank you in advance.

I mean compiled Microsoft help files, which open with hh.exe every time you click help on any application automatically.

Have a look at the version numbers of both hhctrl.ocx and itss.dll, they should be pretty close. When different or unsure, get your installation CD from the drawer and perform a search for both files, extract them from the cabinets and compare version numbers against the installed ones. On my Win98SE they are both 5.2.3644.0.

If on XP (not sure about other OS versions), some manually replaced system files might get automatically overwritten by restored versions from the dllcache folder inside Windows, so you might wanna replace those first.

Also, don't forget to register both of them (regsvr32 %system%\<filename.ext> ).
