Another 'Setup cannot copy the file'

Hey. I created a new slipstreamed Windows XP install disc using the latest nlite. I've done this a couple times before. This time i've slipstreamed SP3 as well as a few utilities and updates.

But this time while doing it i've come up with some errors.

When testing the disc in Sun xVM VirtualBox I get lots of errors when trying to install. Almost every file comes back saying "Setup cannot copy the file *.*".

The first file that pops up is "acc_dis.chm", so I expanded all the "in_" files then used Notepad++ to try and find a reference to this this file in all the ".inf"s. It comes up twice with reference to settings for it, but theres nothing saying it needs to be copied over.

The same goes for the next file "access.chm" and the next ... and the next .. I'm literally holding down 'esc' and hundreds of files are popping up. Whats even stranger is that "acc_dis.chm" is a help file, and I told nlite to remove all help files, so why is it trying to copy them?

Both "acc_Dis.chm" and "access.chm" popped up in "defltwk.inf" and "dwup.inf". Under 'File Security' and 'individual File Settings' respectively.

Another file "blue_ss.dll" doesn't get a hit at all. It isn't reference to in any of the ".inf"s

Does anyone have a solution for me? I've tried resetting BIOS already and running memcheck etc. I would put this down to a bad burn, but i've burnt the disc off 3 times using ImgBurn and verified each disc.

Thanks

You should upload preset so we can look what are you doing. Also, are you using clean XP CD, which is not nLited before or modified in any other way?

Cheers ;)

Welcome to the forum.

Why do you call you thread "Another 'Setup cannot copy the file'" ? Have you found other threads like that ? Have you read them ? Have you seen they all end up with "to slipstrem SP3, you need to start with an original disc" ? Well, do you ? :hello:

Ah yeah. I searched for this, but the 5/6 threads i looked at were all long threads of dead ends or solutions that didn't work for me. I used an old nlited sp2 disc, so that'll be it. Cheers

I had the exact same issue. Short version, nLite didn't like my Windows XP disc. I'm not entirely sure why.

Long version:

I have two Windows XP Professional discs. My original disc which has no service pack, and my home made disc with SP2 slipstreamed into it. When I made an nLite disc from the latter, it resulted in a broken mess that had the aforementioned errors.

I then went back to my original disc, and in nLite added SP2 along the way. It took a lot longer to crank out a disc, but you know, it actually works so who cares?

I had the same issue on several attempts. When ever I slipstreamed SP3, I would get the errors. Anytime I created disks with Nlite and NOT include SP3, everything loaded OK. Still have not figured out why.
