Mr Snrub Posted August 2, 2008 Share Posted August 2, 2008 The registry hives are just databases and contain machine-specific data, so they may well be created from scratch during setup rather than have a template copied from the installation media.The versions of the files originally created during setup are copied away into %systemroot%\Repair:SECURITY, SOFTWARE & SYSTEMThis is how one method of emergency recovery can be done, in the event of registry corruption you can copy one or all of these hives back into %systemroot%\system32\config from a recovery console (or when booted from another OS).
