Chrysalis Posted July 15, 2008 Share Posted July 15, 2008 As topic says basically microsoft made a hotfix for XP 64bit to enable compound tcp feature, also the same for windows server 2003 however XP 32bit has no such luxury, hotfix here.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949316I am gutted as is a very nice feature, is there some technical reason why the hotfix is 64bit only? JedMeister Posted July 16, 2008 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I suspect the only reason its available for XP x64 is because x64 XP is 2003 x64 rebadged, no further work would've been required to make it work. It is quite possible that the 2003 (x86) hotfix could be hacked to install on XP (x86) (they are very similar OSs), although not 100% sure it would work properly. It's not going to happen: they're not going to sink hundreds of millions of $ on an OS they've replaced and are going to stop selling soon. You want that kernel? It's also going to be available (the home version) to system builders for the next 6 months, and a little longer exclusively (again, home version only) for ultra-low-cost PCs (dirt cheap low-spec'ed portables, like the Eee PC and the OLPC)But it's very much on its way out. As MS' own web page says:Direct OEM and Retail License Availability (end date) Windows XP Professional: June 30, 2008So whatever's on the shelves now is all that's left pretty much.
