jchristl Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Hi guys, I just installed an XP Pro install, that I created by slipstreaming SP2 and SP3. I was expecting to be able to bypass the entering of the product key, but was still forced to. I had no problems entering it, but I still was expecting not to. The CD was XP Pro w/ sp1 already on it. I took that source, slipstreamed Sp2, and Sp3. Then used DriverPacks. THe two things that concerned me was:1) I had to enter the Product Key (as mentioned above)2) Copying wpa*.* files from C:/Windows/System32 from Safe Mode didn't work either. I am a bit more upset about point 2, since I cannot stand doing the activation, and fear calling India. Any idea why these things occurred?
ricktendo Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 The key skipping thing will not work on personal slipstreamed CD's I think
Ponch Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 The CD was XP Pro w/ sp1 already on it. I took that source, slipstreamed Sp2, and Sp3.+ you only need slipstreaming SP3 which already contains SP2 updates.

If so how could I remove sp1 from my source cd? OR do I just need sp1 and sp3? I think I'm gonna have to experiment with a virtual machine....
spacesurfer Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) yes, sp3 is cumulative. if you are slipstreaming, i think you need to slipstream to xpsp1. but if you are installing to a live install, then you can install to windows xp (meaning sp0):System Requirements * Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP; Windows XP Home Edition; Windows XP Home Edition N; Windows XP Media Center Edition; Windows XP Professional Edition; Windows XP Professional N; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Starter Edition; Windows XP Tablet PC Editionwhere Windows XP would be no sp's.per ms site. spacesurfer Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 interesting. someone should try installing sp3 on an sp0 machine and confirm. gosh, i don't remember running sp0; who still has sp0?
jchristl Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 I took that to mean the PC that one is working on to create a slipstreamed cd needed to be SP1a, or greater, but they can use a cd that had sp0 or greateer on it, to create a slipstreamed cd.
