etsoft Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Hi,i wonder how safe Remote Desktop is, is it using VPN te connect to a remote computer ?If not is teh combination possible ??Regards.E.Traas
joe43wv Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Yes. The combination is possible, I know at work we use a client VPN software which when connects we can use RDP to connect to our pc's. Now to answer your first question I'm not sure but I figure you can't go wrong w/ a VPN if going from the outside in.
CoffeeFiend Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Remote desktop doesn't use a VPN by default. You can use it over one though, much like joe43wv said.It uses the RDP protocol (based on the ICA protocol from Citrix), on port 3389 (TCP). It does have some basic encryption built-in, but over a VPN would be more secure for sure (restricting usage of that port to certain IPs or such via firewall isn't a bad idea either)
