D.Arbib Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Recently I had to complete an XP/SP2 re-installation and when Microsoft update was activated, downloaded and installed SP3. The tried to install other items including Media 11 but always got message that updates were not installed. After a lot of trouble I found Article 943144 Rev 2.3 wich confirmed that the latest Windows update included a file that was not available in XP/SP2. The file mame is Wups2.dll but the registry entries are missing for this file. The article provides 2 fixes and I found that the first was adequate and updates are now fully active. The question is, why did Microsoft do this - it is not very clever?
jaclaz Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Just for the record, the KB article is here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144/en-usThe good thing is that, at least in this case it's STATUS is:STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.and not a "by design":http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=3541 jaclaz
