Hello guys/gals. I have been lurking here for quite a long time. i really never need to ask a question since it seems like they have always been answered already. but know i have one that i believe needs answering.

I want to slipstream sp3 or sp2 it doesnt matter the question applies to either. I have used offline update to collate all the hotfixes and my question is what is included in the sp's. is it just critical/security and operating system(the hotfixes that start with "windows kb......")OR are the .net, media player, ie7, direct x fixes included. basically i want to know if i slipstream a service pack, for instance sp3, do i need to slipstream these xtra updates or are they included(the ones that r up to that point). This question seems confusing so please let me know if i need to clarify anything. Thanks, thanks and more thanks.

A service pack is a collection of all/most of the updates for a particular product that have been released to that point, along with any other fixes/updates that may have been created in the development process of that service pack (I know of a couple specific ones).

The service pack generally (XP SP2 was very much out of the ordinary) will not include any of those things you listed. No IE7, no WMP11, no DX updates, etc.

THANKS for the fast response. but that leads me to another question. If i slipstream something that has already been added in a service pack will this create a problem? THanks again in advance for the help.

You shouldn't need to slipstream anything but post-service pack hotfixes. If you're asking if you slipstream SP3 over a CD with SP2+hotfixes, the answer is no, you should not have a problem. However, it is always adviseable to slip a service pack into an RTM source, rather than a modified source.

actually what i am trying to figure out is that if i slipstream SP3 then do i have to also slipstream all non-os updates(IE7, dx,media player, .net, etc.). im not talking about the ones that will come after sp3 im talking about the ones between sp2 and sp3. thanks again

Well, if it's not included in the XP SP3 package, then yes, you will need to integrate those as well. IE7, updated DX, Windows Media, .net, etc are all not a part of the SP3 package.
