wpi not waiting when installing Adobe Photoshop
Lqdwax replied to Lqdwax's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
sorry it took me so long to respond. been crazy busy. anyway here is the content of the .bat file, and if i forgot to mention the .bat file works if i dont silently install with wpi. if i just run bat file on a normal desktop it will silently install. if i run it thru wpi then it doesnt work it starts install but then just starts doing the rest of my install list and doesnt finish photoshop. thanks for all help "%Userprofile%\Desktop\CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=Silent --deploymentFile="%Userprofile%\Desktop\CS3\Adobe CS3\Deployment.xml" -
Hello All. got what might be a quick question. I am trying to install Adobe Photoshop cs3. I have the install/deployement file correct.I have tested it in vm and it works. but if i load it into wpi and call it from a batch file, the setup will began but wpi wont wait for it to finish before starting other installs. I have also tried unpacking cs3 to desktop then using a batch file to call setup and again it starts but wpi wont let it finish. any thoughts. O and btw whoever figured out the "office fix" is a GENIUS. THANKS. thanks

Hello all. I might be crazy but wasnt there a setting in nlite that would do iso optimization. I want to disable it to create my iso files I have been doing a lot of testing lately and the optimizing is just taking to long. thanks for the help.

Hello All. Ive got a quick question about saving with nlite, so here it is. when you save with nlite does it "append" to the previous save(the one i would choose to load) or does it rewrite the preset file with the new data that is currently on screen. cuz i have been having trouble with presets lately(I am trying to get some templates setup and I am having trouble with saving). thanks for any and all help.

If i can put my two cents in with the "big guys". I realized that if i ran my install without office 2003 then I would not get the rb_config error. also i would like to add that my office install was working fine. then i upgraded from 6.5 and started getting all these errors. anyway thought i would add that. if anything further is need from me(log files, rb_config files) let me know.THANKS

Trouble with new version of WPI
Lqdwax replied to Lqdwax's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Hello all. Thanks for the patience been crazy busy at work. thanks for all the input. to answer some questions. I am using xp sp3. I do have office 2003 and components set to install seperately. I have done some testing over the weekend and have taken out the office installs and I have also taken out "Virtual PC 2007 additions. I think it is working but unsure since i have to do full installs to get the error message. also if it is needed should i post the rb_config file that is on my c: drive. it is definately placed there by wpi. but if i do a complete install with office and virtual pc additions the file is not even created(weird). Thanks for the patience and any help will be appreciated. -
Hello all, I have been using the newest version of nlite. i am slipstreaming sp3, ryan vm's post sp3 update, and other hotfixes. just recently during installs at the 13min mark i get a error message that the rootsupd.exe cant be installed because it cant be found. i have attached a screen capture of the message if that helps. I attach certain hotfixes for msxml and other things not included in sp3. could these be the culprits. also i just began using stimpys .net installer. any help would be greatly appreciated. if u need a complete list of what i include in nlite let me know i will post. THANKS

Hello all, I upgraded from wpi 6.5 to 7.01 and have encountered some issues. 1.when i begin a "vrtual pc" install the windows portion of the install is fine and then at about 25% of the wpi install. the iso disconnects itself from the virtual machine and I have to reconnect it to continue the install. 2. During install(after i reconnect the iso) a screen pops up that says"could not open reboot configuration file. c:\rb_config.js" this usually crashes wpi but sometimes it will crash but continue installing with any GUI. i do not have WPI set to restart if this is what this file is referring to. I have attached a pic so you can see for yourself. 3. Lastly I have a silent deployment file for adobe photoshop cs3 and if I test it in a regular install enviroment it works(silently) if i insert it into WPI it begins to work but only installs for about 2 or 3 minutes and then says that it was successfully installed. but it is not. THANKS in advance for any and all help/comments.

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone is using the disc spanning tool "cdswitch" because i have a couple of questions on setup. I would just like to know the easiest way of integrating it into "wpi". I have been searching the forums and I keep coming up with using cdswitch in different customized ways but none that just explain how to simply integrate it with WPI. I have tried batch files, preinstalling, running commands from the wpi commandline, and more. all i want to do is my usual wpi install(around 5gig) but i want it spanned over CD-Roms(i have a bunch of laptops that dont have dvd-rom drives that i need to wipe). thats it, no fancy pics or font size or antyhing. as u can see i am frustrated so pardon the sarcasm. as always any/all help is greatly appreciated. THANKS

Hello all, I have been trying to use nlite to setup different types of preset templates, meaning i want to setup tweaks, add/remove components, unattended, etc.. I have different configurations for different machine setups. I might be missing something but my process is this. I will go thru and do all my various tweaks. then i will save as a preset. then if i run thru the nlite process and decide that i want to reload the files because i forgot something nothing comes back up when i reload preset and reload i386folder. all the boxes that i checked before, and the services i tweeked are not there everything looks like a new install, except for unattended. I know i sound confusing as i am not trying to write a novel here i am trying to be short and sweet. THANKS in advance for the help

Trouble with INF File with sfx/unattended install with options
Lqdwax replied to Lqdwax's topic in Application Installs
I can't specifically say for DVDFab since I have never installed/used the program, but from my experience, some programs do NOT follow the .inf file. The programmers forgot/did not want to/started smoking crack while they were coding the installer, and just forgot to include certain switch support in the installer. When I have run into this problem of not reading all my custom settings from the .inf file, I do the normal silent install. Then I look to see what shortcuts the program installed that I didn't want, and use a .cmd / .bat file to clean up/move/rename the shortcuts. Once you get the .cmd / .bat file made (yes, you do have to code that yourself), just package that file inside your WinRAR sfx. Then, under the comment section of WinRAR, just add another "setup=" path to your .cmd / .bat file. For example: Setup="MyProgram.exe /switch /switch" Setup="MyCleanup.cmd" Then, your program will autoinstall, and your cleanup file will customize that install for you! If you are not sure about batch files, then search the forums. There is a ton of info. on here about them! Here is a starter link. Some common environment variables you will use in your batch files when moving/deleting shortcuts are: 1. All users start menu: "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu" 2. Individual users start menu: "%userprofile%\Start Menu" 3. All users dekstop: "%allusersprofile%\Desktop" 4. Individual users desktop: "%userprofile%\Desktop" 5. Quicklaunch:"%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch" Hopefully that gets you started! --radigast FYI: A path of "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp" is the same as "%temp%" Radigast, First thanks for the response. secondly, I am familiar with bat/cmd files. I tried your method but the batch file is being run to fast. I mean before the initial program is finished being setup the batch file is running. could you please be a little more specific in what you are saying for i am very eager to learn this method as it will help me out a lot. THANKS -

Trouble with INF File with sfx/unattended install with options
Lqdwax replied to Lqdwax's topic in Application Installs
Radigast, Thanks for the tips and sorry if my question was unclear so i will restate. I am using cmenu hXXp://www.msfn.org/board/CMenu-t47645.html&hl=cmenu The Process is: First. I use cmenu to identify installer and then i record the install. say for example "DVD FAB HD decrypter"it then spits out the inf file. [setup] Lang=English Dir=C:\Program Files\DVDFab HD Decrypter 4 Group="DVD VIDEO-AUDIO\DVDFab HD Decrypter" NoIcons=0 Tasks= Second. I take inf file and exe and create a winrar sfx. in the comment section I input: Setup=DVDFabHDDecrypter4012.exe /VERYSILENT /LOADINF=.\DVDFabHDDecrypter4012.inf Path=%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp SavePath Silent=1 Overwrite=1 and finally zip it up and install it. now here is the problem. In the inf under group. I have it set to install under a custom group heading and it is not working. the program silently installs fine. but none of the custom settings in the inf are getting installed correctly. no specialized group that i specified in the inf. the "NoIcons" command is not working either because i have it set to not install any icons and it does. In my opinion i dont think it is following the inf file. i followed what "ricktendo64" said in the post after your post. what ricktendo64 said worked for dvd shrink but it is not working for dvdfab. I am really puzzled by all of this and maybe i am being to long winded. but i am trying to explain the best i can. THANKS tons for all the help now and in advance. -
Hello All: I have been trying to make a variety of unattended install items. I have been using winrar sfx with .inf files because I want to tailor some of the install options. Below is an install for dvd shrink 3.2 all i want to do is install with no desktop or quick launch icons and I want the "dvdshrink" program folder shortcut to be placed in a newly created folder on the start menu called "DVD VIDEO-AUDIO"(I am not yelling that is just how the folder is named, with all caps). Below is the .inf [setup] Lang=default Dir=C:\Program Files\DVD Shrink Group=DVD VIDEO-AUDIO\DVD Shrink NoIcons=0 Components= I Then setup winrar SFX and in the comment section i enter this Setup=dvdshrink32setup.exe /VERYSILENT /LOADINF="dvdshrink32setup.inf" Silent=1 Overwrite=1 I dont understand I have done this before and I dont know what is wrong this time. I have a bunch of programs with pretty similar options and I cant get them to uninstall. By the way I double checked everything using "Cmenu" This is really driving me crazy. As Always the help is Greatly APpreciated.THANKS. thanks.
