Hemlock Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Hi,Need some help, We had a old IBM x series server attached via an 8 port brocade switch to an IBM DS400 disk array. The x series server decided it didn't want to live anymore and gave up the ghost. After recovering most of the services to another machine, we began trying to recover the fileserving part to another server. We reused the FC card from the old server in a new server and rebooted. The new server was able to detect the IBM DS400 but the partition table was lost, so it sees 1 large unallocated drive of 549GB. If I start to partition this, all of the drives information and data will be lost. How do I go about recovering the MBR for this DS400? can anyone help? The x series server is running 2003.Thanks
Tripredacus Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Hey the FAT and the MBR are two different things. Recovering an MBR can be done but I've never heard of anyone recovering a FAT before. i'd sure like to learn more about that process myself if it is possible.
nmX.Memnoch Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 If this is a SAN I believe you're going to have to setup the new server as an allowed device to connect to the array(s).I would call IBM to see what you can do.
