Halon. Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I want to make a very light XP Prof. instalation and I was wondering which parts must be saved. I haven`t found any tutorials, which would tell what parts are required for normal usage of XP. In other hand it should be up-to-date instalation so it won`t be too small. My target is to check for delete all components and then uncheck those needed.Do i have to use IE (or any of its part) to connect to Windows Update and see which updates i`ve got installed? Automatic updates requires (part of) it? On-line antivirus scanners? I use IE only for those 2 things.Did the WMP (or its part) is required to watch streamed TV via webbrowser? Is any other program which could do that? or it depends on "stream provider"?Can i make light instalation and add some files that i may need in future on CD and when XP prompts me about missing part can i install only this one (or from original XP CD)?I imagine this like: XP installs clean (even without IE), runs, and:asks what things I want to install (ie. Firefox, Thunderbird, Winamp etc.) and I check them, orI simpy run suitable exe from nLite XP CD.----------Sorry if some one doesn`t understand me. Write a PM with notice how I should wrote this.
Ponch Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 My target is to check for delete all components and then uncheck those needed.Unless you know what you are doing (and you wouldn't post such a vague question) I suggest you go the opposite way. Smallest XP in not an achievement in itself, unless you have a machine with 2Gig HDD and 128Meg ram. If you don't know what you are removing, chance is you'll need it later and it is not possible to reintegrate it. So you'll save yourself a few megs on your HDD but loose hours and hours on tweaks and reinstallation.
