win98 & USB HDD in NTFS

Featured Replies

will it work? what drivers i must 2 install?

Edited by Ixeon

You'll need 2 drivers:

1) A driver for the USB disk itself, for instance this one.

2) A NTFS file system driver. You can find a discussion on these here.

And yes, it *can* work.

Oh, I forgot to ask, i heared about win9x problem with hard drives over 137 GB. Is there any problem with usb hdd like this?

No. The LBA48 problem is related to the default W9x IDE driver, which is not used for an USB disk.

Why format it as NTFS, wouldn't FAT32 be better?

If I recall - some usb drives are being shipped pre-formatted with NTFS as of late which could be why.
