m176244 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi guys wondering if you could help me find a solution to this problem,my girlfriends computer is a dell c521 this morning it froze and she held in the power button for it to restart, after it had switched off it turned back on as normal but within 2 seconds it powered off.Plugging it out and back in again causes the windows logo to appear so it does start but within 2 seconds its off again. The power button is slightly depressed in at the bottom, just incase anyone wants to know what the tower looks like heres a link http://www.hardware.info/images/news/dellc521.jpgIs it possible to remove the power button from the outside and then refitting or does it require taking the pc apart where that big black box is?If anyone has any suggestions or solutions it'd be much appreciated, the earlisest I can look at the problem myself is Sunday but she needs her pc asap and she doesn't trust herself to take it apart on her own.I've never had to fix a problem like this before either so I wouldn't know the best way to go about it,I can strip a pc out but I've never had to try and access where the power button is.Thanks for any and all help that any of you can give me
Kelsenellenelvian Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Give it a firm smack with the flat of your hand and it should dislodge it. (Not too hard though)
m176244 Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 Crude and hopefully effective I'll pass that on to her tonight thanks!
m176244 Posted January 23, 2008 Author Posted January 23, 2008 Lol it worked thanks Kelsenellenelvian!
jcarle Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 With PC off! You can spray a bit of WD40 around the button so it stops jamming. ONLY A BIT! And let it dry over night before turning it on again.
