  1. Right here goes, went to boot up my pc only for it to say it could not detect any drives. I have 2 seagates a 250GB and a 500Gb, the 500GB had the os/files on it and the 250 just had some movies etc. I removed the 250GB drive and tried to boot it up and still got the same problem, did the the same with the 500Gb and still wouldn't boot. I then formatted the 250GB drive and installed windows xp on it, installation went fine so I shut it down and went to put the 500GB back in. After I put it in and went in to the bios to make sure it was being detected I seen it said drive unknown and also said the 250GB drive was "unknown". Again it failed to boot so I disconnected the 500Gb and went in to the bios, this time the 250Gb showed up fine in it and also booted no problem but anytime the 500Gb is attached the pc refuses to boot, even when I have it turned off in the bios. Anyone have any ideas? Both drives are seagates and there sata.
  2. Thanks for your reply and I managed to fix it thanks to google,I just deleted the string that showed up the option of which to use so now it boots staright from the working ini file.
  3. Long story short every time I start my pc I have to choose which ini file to boot up with 1 labeled Media Center and the 2nd XP Pro .They are both Windows Media Center just to clarify a while back I played an online MMORPG and they had a big bug in their game updater that caused my boot.ini file to delete/corrupt,after I restarted obviously windows wouldn't load so I had to rebuild my ini file from my os cd.However now when I start I have to choose between which 1 to boot up with and obviously I don't want to boot up with the 1 that fails to load. How can I set it to auto choose which 1 to boot from? or can someone tell me where to go to find and delete the bad one? Theres an image of both of the boot up settings when I typed bootcfg in the command box.Any help is appreciated and if i've left anything out that you need to know please ask its annoying having to choose each time (when you've got free time its this stuff that really ticks me off!)
  4. Crude and hopefully effective I'll pass that on to her tonight thanks!
  5. Hi guys wondering if you could help me find a solution to this problem,my girlfriends computer is a dell c521 this morning it froze and she held in the power button for it to restart, after it had switched off it turned back on as normal but within 2 seconds it powered off.Plugging it out and back in again causes the windows logo to appear so it does start but within 2 seconds its off again. The power button is slightly depressed in at the bottom, just incase anyone wants to know what the tower looks like heres a link http://www.hardware.info/images/news/dellc521.jpg Is it possible to remove the power button from the outside and then refitting or does it require taking the pc apart where that big black box is?If anyone has any suggestions or solutions it'd be much appreciated, the earlisest I can look at the problem myself is Sunday but she needs her pc asap and she doesn't trust herself to take it apart on her own. I've never had to fix a problem like this before either so I wouldn't know the best way to go about it,I can strip a pc out but I've never had to try and access where the power button is. Thanks for any and all help that any of you can give me
  6. I'd just like to thank you all FFD has worked perfectly and all my media players can run dvd's again.
  7. Today I tried to play a dvd movie on my pc but it media center popped this up when I tried to play it The dvd was not in use with any other application and I tried different resolution settings but to no avail.I thought the dvd was damaged so I tried it in my portable player and it worked perfectly, I did this a few more times on different discs with the same result. I then tried realplayer and windows media player 11, when I tried windows media player this popped up My gpu is up to date as is everything for windows update, Can anyone help me with this problem? Here are the pc's specs, Dell Dimension 9150 Media Centre Edition 3.0 ghz Dual core 250gb Harddrive 1024mb ddr2 ram Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE The dvd drive plays cd's and games fine the only part that doesn't work is when I try playing a movie on a dvd. It used to work no problem but I haven't used it in over a month so I can not tell when this problem first started happening. Thank you in advance for any help that any of you can give me. I just noticed the images are quite large if needed I'll remove them and put the links up instead if they are larger then your forums size restrictions.
