How does Media Player 11 organize files?

How does Windows Media Player 11 (MP11) organize files? What tags does it use to set up its organization? I ripped a set of 78rpm records and converted them to MP3s. I used a tag editor to enter their titles, tracks, etc. MP11 got very confused. The folder containing all of these files does not appear anywhere. The files are listed in several genera. I want to keep all of them in one folder, with four subfolders, and I want MP11 to keep that organization. The question is, how does MP11 go about organizing files? What information does it use? Are there tricks to "outsmart" this process?
